Learning Challenge: Pomodoro Technique Update

Image
(Pomodoro Technique by Luca Mascaro Flickr ) Hello everyone! I feel like I have been doing Learning Challenges for the past couple of weeks. This is my last learning challenge. I feel like they flew by quickly. Anyways, here is my update on the Pomodoro Technique! It was hard tracking my time. I have made many timers as this experiment has gone by. I will say that this technique is helpful. When I start my homework, I usually begin with the easier material. This way, I slowly become motivated to do my harder work, and I will take my time doing it. The timers were helpful, but most of the time, I needed more time. I felt like I was rushing to get the most work done in that said time interval. For that reason, I extended the "study time" depending upon the difficulty of my work. This technique definitely helped in my time management skills. So, this experiment was successful! Bibliography: Pomodoro Technique  by Tanvi Jagtap

Learning Challenge: Happiness Jar Update

Image
(Container Bottle Jars Max Pixel ) Hello everyone! This is my two week update post on my Happiness Jar. To be honest, I forgot to write what made my happy every night. I think I missed three or fours days total. I eventually wrote something down when I remembered what made me happy that day. Throughout the "experiment," I also realized that I tend to focus more on the negative things than the positive things. I did not think this jar would be helpful, but it actually was. I reread what I wrote, and I have much to be happy for. Also instead of writing my thoughts on paper, it was easier to do it on the Notes app on my iPhone. This was very convenient as I did not have a big jar and didn't want to waste paper! Overall, this challenge was successful!

Learning Challenge: Trying the Pomodoro Technique

Image
(Pomodoro Technique by Luca Mascaro Flickr ) This is another learning challenge in which I will try out the Pomodoro Technique. This video by Tanvi Japtap effectively explains its purpose:  Pomodoro Technique . I chose this challenge because I am becoming prone to distractions lately. The things I need to do are pushed back and keep pilling up. So, I hope this will help! In this post, I will outline my Pomodoro experiment and update after two weeks. After making a list of the tasks I need to complete, I will begin by working in 30 minutes intervals. Once I have studied/focused on a task for 30 minutes, I will take a 5 minute break. Even if I am not done with the task, I will take a break and start on it again. This is one session of the Pomodoro Technique. After 3 sessions, I will extend my focus time to an hour and my break time to 10 minutes. This way, it will keep my mind motivated and fresh! Ultimately, this will led to effective learning because I am shifting betwee...

Learning Challenge: Happiness Jar

Image
(Container Bottle Jars Max Pixel ) I will be trying the Happiness Jar challenge for two weeks! In the evenings, I will be writing something that made me happy and place the note in the jar. This would be a nice way to end the day on a positive note, because there is something good in everyday! If there are multiple things that made me happy, I will write all of them down! So, whenever I am sad or having a hard day, I can look back and reflect on the amazing things that happened! I hope this will experiment will be successful and can help relieve my stress!

Learning Challenge: Reading Out Loud

Image
( Students Reading Out Loud by GMR Akash Wikimedia Commons) Hi there! I am doing yet another Learning Challenge this week! I challenged myself to read out loud! Whenever I hear the words "read out loud," it reminds me of having to read out loud in middle school and high school. It was traumatizing reading in front of my peers, because I could not pronounce the words correctly as I am bilingual. At the time, it stressed me out greatly; however, this does not affect me as much. Reading aloud allows me to understand the details further and clears up my confusion. As I am slowing down, it gives me more time to understand the material. Like many things, it has its disadvantages. It took me twice as long to read this week's reading. I plan on reading out loud in the future, but I hope it does not take much time. When I am confused, I will definitely read out loud!

Learning Challenge: Update on Deskercises

Image
( Deskercise: 17 Exercises ) Hello everyone! This week's Learning Challenge is a continuation from Week 3's Learning Challenge (desk exercises)! I did desk exercises for roughly two weeks and realized that I forgot to do them when I was in pain or sore. Since I am used to being in one position for hours, I did not realize the toll it took on my body. Therefore, I decided to schedule the exercise into my daily routine. I would do it in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Going to sleep and waking up was amazing after I did it regularly. Even though most of the exercises included stretching, it relieved my pain! In addition, I decided to include some healthy habits as well. Before, I used to go to sleep and wake up by getting on my phone. Not getting on my phone in the morning and evening was relieving. The article that inspired improving my health was  6 Yoga Exercises You Won't Be Embarrassed to Do at Your Desk  by Linda Steinberg. I aim on continuing this routine...

Learning Challenge: Trying Desk Exercises!

Image
(Yoga Exercise Pixabay ) I choose to do another Learning Challenge this week! Even though it's the third week of school, I am already tired and stressed. For this reason, I choose to focus on Health/Happiness. I am constantly at my desk doing assignments on my laptop. Whether I am just studying or taking notes, everything involves being on my laptop. I become very tired after sitting in one position for too long, and so I am always moving around. To help relieve some tension, I choose to read 6 Yoga Exercises You Won't Be Embarrassed to Do at Your Desk by Linda Steinberg!  Once I was done reading her article, I immediately tried out the exercises she listed! It roughly took 10 minutes to do everything. Right now, my body is extremely stiff, so I was not able to feel immediate relief. After some time though, I hope I will feel a lot better! My favorite ones that the author discussed were the chair twist and the open chest stretch. All my muscles felt relaxed af...

Learning Challenge: Being Grateful

Image
(A Blackboard Showing Gratitude  pxhere ) In this week's Learning by H.E.A.R.T. challenge, I choose to read an article in the Diigo Library. The article I choose was 6 Ways Gratitude Can Improve Your Life and Make You Happier by Victoria Brauer. As I have mentioned before, I struggle with managing my stress. So, I was interested in ways that could help me deal with this issue. Brauer's article did just that.  When I was reading her article, her articled confirmed something I knew already; I have many things to be grateful for. I am incredibly grateful for my family and friends. Without them, I don't know who I would be. By just being thankful, it can take away my some of my worries. Her article taught me something new as well. Gratitude can improve your sleep as it takes away some stress. Because of her tips, I want to end the day with being thankful with what I have. There is something good in everyday no matter how small it is. So, before going to sleep,...
